Postecoglou always wins in his second season

Given Tottenham’s struggles toward the end of last season, the pressure was always going to mount on Postecoglou if the Lilywhites made a poor start this time around, and that is exactly what has happened.

The Australian has certainly not helped himself by talking up his side’s ambitions, pointing out before the season that his sides tend to win trophies in his second season in charge (Sky Sports).

Postecoglou won trophies at South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Yokohama F. Marinos and Celtic in his second season.

When he was asked after the North London derby loss if he could repeat the same at Spurs, the 59-year-old was adamant that they still will (Sky Sports).

Body language expert says Postecoglou is lying

The Daily Mail have now spoken to Darren Stanton, a body language expert, about Postecoglou’s comments, and he feels that the Tottenham boss did not believe his own words.

The publication quotes him as saying: “Postecoglou moves his whole head to the right, which is a gesture representing shame. He’s showing signs of anger and shame, he’s mad at himself and the interviewer.

“If you notice, he keeps prolonged eye contact with the interviewer and his blink rate increases, which means he has an increase in anxiety and emotion.

“When people are trying to sell a lie, they overcompensate eye contact. The prolonged eye contact is a way of Postecoglou trying to convince the interviewer that he is confident that he will win trophies in his second year in charge of Tottenham.

“This prolonged eye contact is not seen in any other part of the interview, and it stands out as being deceptive, or something analysers would call a linguistic deception.”

“When Postecoglou looks down, it’s when he has to think about how to reply to the questions being asked. People who look up tend to process things a lot quicker, but because football is a very emotive sport, you’ll notice more managers and players looking down so they can access their feelings, also known as kinesthetics.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is ridiculous to read into Postecoglou’s shame and anger as evidence of his lying. Shame and anger are obvious emotions to feel when one’s side has lost a big derby game and has made a poor start to the season.
