Harry Redknapp thinks Premier League star would turn down Spurs move
Harry Redknapp is of the opinion that Alexander Isak would not be keen to swap Newcastle United for Tottenham Hotspur if the Lilywhites came calling.
Isak is one of the best strikers in the Premier League
Isak has been a revelation since swapping Real Sociaded for Newcastle a little over two years ago and the centre-forward has understandably been linked with several big clubs.
This includes Tottenham, with a number of reports suggesting over the course of the summer transfer window that the Lilywhites are big fans of the Sweden international (Football Insider).
However, Newcastle managed to hold on to Isak and the Spurs decided to splash the cash to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth instead.
Just last week, GiveMeSport reported that Tottenham are not expected to go back in for the Magpies star after the signing of Solanke, with a top-class number nine no longer a priority for Ange Postecoglou’s men.
The report added that Tottenham’s withdrawal from the race could allow Arsenal to have a free run at Isak.
Harry Redknapp says Isak would reject Spurs
Redknapp is not convinced that the Newcastle star would want to move to Spurs if his former club came calling.
When asked if Isak would be a good signing for Tottenham, he told talkSPORT (15/09/24): “But it’s a difficult one, I suppose. Newcastle is also a big club. They are a massive club, so I suppose really, no disrespect, there’s not a lot between the two teams over the last couple of years.
“I would think if he was going, maybe, he is looking to go to a team that certainly would have a big chance of winning. I am a big fan of Isak. He is a fantastic striker.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Redknapp is right in saying that Isak would only want to swap Newcastle for a club which guarantees silverware.
Based on Tottenham’s performances over this calendar year, we are a long way away from being that kind of team.
