The Yankees and their fanbase roll into Seattle for a three-game set

Well it sure was fun to kick the Texas Rangers around for three games, but things tighten up considerably this week with a series against the Yankees to close out the Mariners’ long homestand. After this they’ll head out on an Oops! All Texas Teams road trip and then come back for one quick three game set against the A’s to close out the season. But first, here’s WonderWalls (Judge and Soto).

Lineups:

MLB, sobbing: You can’t just play in the City Connects all the time

Kevin Martinez:

Time for the time-honored tradition of grading the opponent’s lineup card graphics:

It is thematically appropriate for the Yankees, the New York Times of baseball (derogatory), to make their graphic look like a newspaper from the early 90s even if that involves using the ugliest italic font known to man. This also gets points for readability and including a lot of information in a non-cluttered way. There’s nothing super fresh or innovative here, but that’s very much The Yankees Way, so this all tracks. Also they get points for not making a SEA pun.

Tonight’s game information:

Game time: 6:40 PT

Television: ROOT Sports NW, with Dave Sims and Ryan Rowland-Smith

Radio: 710 AM Seattle Sports with Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith

  • 1997: Ken Griffey Jr. sets a Mariners record as well as a personal career best with his 140th RBI. Edgar Martínez collects his third consecutive 100 RBI/100 R/100 BB season.
  • 2000: Kazuhiro Sasaki ties a club record with his 33rd save.
  • 2008: Ichiro records his 200th hit of the season at Kansas City, marking 8th consecutive 200-hit season (ties record set by Willie Keeler).
  • 2009: Ichiro records just his second career walk-off base hit (his first came on July 28th of that year); the Mariners tie a club record for most walk-off wins in a season, with 12.
  • 2018: Edwin Díaz records his eight save of the season vs. Houston, matching the Mariners club record for most saves by a Mariners pitcher vs. any single opponent in a single season.
  • 2021 – Jarred Kelenic records first career multi-HR game in 6-2 win at Kansas City… at 22 years and 63 days old, he became the youngest Mariners player to hit 2+ home runs in a game since Alex Rodriguez hit 2 at the age of 21 years and 25 days old on Aug. 21, 1996 at Baltimore.
