Steelers plan to start Justin Fields again in Week 3
To improve their trade compensation, the Bears need quarterback Justin Fields to play at least 51% of the Steelers’ snaps this season.
He’s getting closer by the week.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday that the team is planning to stick with Fields for Week 3 against the Chargers.
“We’re readying ourselves around Justin,” he said. “We’ll stay in that mindset until something happens. Hypotheticals are a waste of time.”
The Bears traded Fields to the Steelers in March for a sixth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder if he plays more than half the snaps for his new team.
He already has played every offensive snap in the first two games after being pressed into starting duty when Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury days before the start of the season. Wilson isn’t ready to return.
The Steelers are 2-0 but are one of four NFL teams, along with the Bears, who have scored just one offensive touchdown.
