Some driver license offices will be open on Saturdays for the rest of September only

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Texans looking to get their driver license renewed or replaced have more appointment time options for the rest of this month.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is adding Saturday appointments at select driver license offices statewide through the end of this month.

Participating offices, which will be located in each region of Texas, will be open for half days on Sept. 21 and 28 to serve additional customers needing driver license or identification card renewal or replacement services, according to DPS.

Those services will be available by appointment only. Customers can book appointments online.

DPS Driver License Office wait times

Texans have faced issues or long wait times over the last few years trying to secure appointments at DPS Driver License Offices after DPS in 2020 moved to an appointment-only system.

KXAN Investigates reported on those continued delays in March 2023, when six of the seven longest wait times at the time were reported in the KXAN viewing area. A Texas DPS spokesperson told KXAN last month that availability varies statewide depending on demand levels.

The spokesperson flagged the DPS driver license tracker as a tool, which analyzes appointment availability and estimated wait times at offices statewide.
