The short winter spell is forecast to be replaced by an Indian summer
The first snowfall has descended on Krasnoyarsk Region in Siberia, prompting residents to share photos and videos of the winter wonderland on social media.
The snowfall was recorded on Monday in the Ergaki Nature Park, located in a mountain range in the southern part of the region. The park, sometimes described as the ‘Russian Yosemite’, is in a protected area of Siberia and is a popular tourist destination.
“Wild” snowfall was also reported on roads in areas of the taiga and near Krasnoyarsk. Drivers complained of minimal visibility, with the snowfall said to be up to 15 centimeters in some areas.
According to local media, last year the first snow in Krasnoyarsk Region fell on October 1.
The wintry scenes won’t delight the locals and tourists for much longer, however, as temperatures of up to 18C (64.4F) have been forecast to return to the area later this week.
