Balloon release to be held today for missing Ville Platte woman
EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A balloon release will be held this evening to remember and raise awareness for a 27-year-old Ville Platte woman who has been missing since mid-June.
Friends and family of Keabreonna "Keke" Doucet announced on social media that the balloon release will be held at 6 p.m. at MLK Park. Those who attend are encouraged to bring red balloons, according to the social media post.
Doucet went missing on Saturday, June 15. She was scheduled to pick up her daughter from a sleepover but she never arrived at the meeting place, Hargrove City Park. When Doucet's daughter could not find her mother, Doucet's family said the search began.
In late June, 75-year-old Jerry Verrette was arrested in connection with the disappearance of Doucet, according to authorities. He was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail and charged with soliciting sex workers.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Ville Platte Police at 337-363-1313.
KLFY reporters Zane Hogue, Rodricka Taylor, and digital producer Scott Yoshonis contributed to this report.
