Man sentenced to 20 years to life for 2023 Troy murder
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office announced that 21-year-old Carlos Corrales-Ramirez has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for a fatal stabbing that took place in Troy in 2023. Corrales-Ramirez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder back in May.
As part of his guilty plea, Corrales-Ramirez admitted that on the afternoon of September 2, 2023, he intentionally caused the death of Jairo Jesus Hernandez Sanchez near River and Douw Streets. Corrales-Ramirez confessed to stabbing Sanchez over 10 times in the torso with a folding knife before fleeing the scene.
Corrales-Ramirez was located and taken into custody by Troy Police near the Arnold E. Fallon apartments on September 3, 2023. He was indicted later that week on September 7.
"I would like to thank the Troy Police Department for building the strongest case possible to present to the District Attorney’s Office. Their dedication, hard work and collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office resulted in the defendant pleading guilty to murder in the second degree," said Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. "Hopefully the plea in this case will provide some closure for the victim's family and friends as well as the community."
