Sunday arson causes $38k in damage in Topeka
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A fire that was determined to be intentionally set caused more than $38,000 in damage to a Topeka house on Sunday.
At 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 15, the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) was called to a single-story home in the 900 block of Southwest Jewell Street. When crews arrived they found smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters doused the fire from outside of the house.
The TFD said a neighboring home also received heat damage. Nobody was injured in the incident. The total loss was estimated to be $38,600 with $36,600 attributed to structure damage and $2,000 of damage to the neighboring home.
Working smoke detectors weren't found inside the home, according to the TFD.
