Worst Tottenham start in nine years

Tottenham Hotspur have recorded just one win so far this season – a 4-0 victory over bottom-place Everton – while drawing to Leicester City and losing against both Newcastle and Arsenal.

Four points in four games makes this Tottenham’s worst start to a Premier League season in nine years and lags well behind what Ange Postecoglou achieved with the club last year.

Spurs won eight and drew two in an unbeaten first 10 games in the 2023/24 campaign before things came crashing down against Chelsea. This year, things haven’t even got going to begin with.

Jamie Redknapp warns Postecoglou about the sack

The Premier League is a cutthroat place when it comes to job security, and fans expect managers to come and deliver instant success – especially when Postecoglou keeps almost guaranteeing a trophy in his second season in North London.

Jamie Redknapp believes the Australian may not get much time to turn things around in N17 before people start calling for his head.

The former Spurs midfielder told Sky Sports (15/09/24 from 16:15): “This time last year Spurs were fantastic to watch. We were all waxing lyrical about the manager and the free flowing football.

“Right now it’s not free flowing. If you play well and don’t start winning then you get days like today where the quality drops.

“They need to pick up some results quickly. It’s a fact at this club if you’re not winning games you don’t get long and he needs to start winning some games.”

Les Ferdinand did jump to Postecoglou’s defence though, stating: “First three games of the season they played really well. Today they were just missing that cutting edge.

“They’re not far away. I think he’s the right man for Tottenham at this moment in time and they’ll get it right. Today there was a lack of quality.

“In previous games there’s been a lack of personnel in the areas the ball has gone into. Solanke is going to take two or three games to get up to speed. I think Ange is the right man.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If you’re going to commit to a project, you have to give it two or three years before making any kind of decision about sacking the manager. It would be foolish to get rid of Ange now.

Look at Arsenal – plenty of people called for Arteta’s head a few years ago and now he finally has his project where he wants it. Football fans need to be more patient.
