Patriots’ Jonathan Jones Takes To Instagram After Controversial Call

Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones felt as though he was the victim of a botched penalty call Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

Jones made that clear when he spoke to reporters after New England's Week 2 overtime loss, as well as on social media.

The versatile defensive back was flagged for pass interference shortly after Seattle kicked off its drive in the extra frame. Geno Smith targeted Tyler Lockett on a first-and-10 from the Seahawks' 31-yard line, and the DPI on Jones moved the visitors past midfield. Six plays later, Mike Macdonald's side kicked a game-winning field goal to hand the Patriots their first loss of the season.

Jones after the game claimed even Lockett told him there shouldn't have been a flag on the play, which saw the former turn back to make a play on the football as the pair hand wrestled. The ninth-year pro also tried to strengthen his case with a still shot of the play posted to his Instagram story.

Jones has a fair gripe, but it can't be pointed to as the main reason why the Patriots lost Sunday. New England had the contest in hand in the fourth quarter but failed to make the plays needed to ice it. And that should be a tough pill to swallow for a team that can't afford to waste golden opportunities this campaign.

The Patriots now will be challenged to bounce back in a short week, as they will kick off the league's Week 3 slate on the road against the New York Jets on Thursday.
