French authorities have reported that eight people died while attempting to cross the English Channel.

This incident occurred on Sunday, September 15, when a boat carrying around 60 migrants en route from France to the UK encountered difficulties along the way.

French officials stated that a rescue crew was alerted to a boat in trouble with 59 passengers in the coastal waters near Ambleteuse in the Pas-de-Calais region. Eight people lost their lives in the incident.

The victims were men from Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Eritrea, and Sudan. A total of 53 migrants, including Afghans, were rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment.

David Lammy, the UK’s Foreign Secretary, described the incident as “horrific” and reiterated his government’s plan to collaborate with European countries to combat human trafficking networks.

Less than two weeks ago, another boat carrying migrants sank in the English Channel, marking the deadliest incident this year, with 12 people, including six children and a pregnant woman, losing their lives.

The repeated tragedies in the English Channel highlight the desperate plight of migrants seeking safety and the urgent need for international cooperation to prevent such loss of life and combat human trafficking.
