His three sons Taj, Taryll, and TJ – who comprised the R&B/Pop group 3T – released a statement on their father’s passing late Sunday on Instagram.
It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being. Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as “Coach Tito” or some know him as “Poppa T.” Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be “Tito Time” for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is “Love One Another.” We love you Pops.
Rest in peace to vocalist and guitarist Tito Jackson, of the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons. Tito sang backup on everything from "I Want You Back" to "I'll Be There," and released two solo albums in the last ten years: 'Tito Time' and 'Under Your Spell.' pic.twitter.com/nZ7rHKDIfp

The news of Tito Jackson’s death sparked a wave of tributes and condolences via social media.
Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, Tito was the third of ten children born to Joe and Katherine Jackson in Gary, Indiana.
RIP Tito Jackson. Without his courage to defy his dad & pick up his guitar, we might not have witnessed the birth of the Jackson 5 or seen Michael Jackson become the greatest entertainer. Tito’s talent as a guitarist was the foundation of it all pic.twitter.com/wJE4PVJNIG

As a kid, Tito was caught playing his father’s guitar after breaking a string. After fixing the string, his father demanded that he play for him. He would ultimately buy Tito his own guitar, and soon after, he and his brothers formed the Jackson 5.
There is great sadness in my heart tonight – I just found out that my brother in heart and spirit, Tito Jackson has passed. I’m stunned, devastated and speechless. I love you, Tito. My most sincere love & prayers for the entire Jackson family. I love you all VERY much. pic.twitter.com/KnO3Gp9uqM

With their breakthrough on Motown Records, the Jackson 5 became the first group to debut with four consecutive #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” The Jackson 5 (later renamed “The Jacksons”) eventually sold up to 150 million records worldwide.
Aside from his work with his brothers, Tito also had a solo career as a blues musician. His debut solo single, “Get It Baby,” peaked at #20 on the Billboard Adult R&B Chart. He released two solo albums, Tito Time (2016) and Under Your Spell (2021).
If Tito Jackson never broke Joe’s guitar string, we might not of known about the Jackson 5. May him and his brother, Michael, rest peacefully pic.twitter.com/vghqvkSZBn

Along with his sons, Jackson leaves behind his mother Katherine, his surviving siblings and nine grandchildren.
I'm glad Joe fixed the strings on his guitar so Tito could show him how talented he was and start The Jackson. That solo in Heartbreak Hotel was The swingingest Jackson. A legend. An Icon.
Rest in power, Tito Jackson pic.twitter.com/XukwihNaD1— Amber (@AmberTMzuka) September 16, 2024
