Kansas City Chiefs’ Joe Burrow Marries Comfort and Fashion in Retro Rick Owens DRKSHDW High-Top Sneakers for Bengals-Chiefs Game Arrival

Kansas City Chiefs’ Joe Burrow rolled up stylishly ahead of his game against the Cincinnati Bengals today in Kansas City.

The quarterback donned a pair of Rick Ownes DRKSHDW vintage suede-trimmed denim high-top sneakers in black and white. Retailing for $680, the designer sneaker pick featured a mix of contrasting black denim and white suede uppers along with white laces, ultra-comfy padded collars and thick platform-esque rubber soles fixed with durable tread. Contrasting white stitching can be seen throughout the silhouette.

Although the style is not vintage, as its name suggests, it is inspired by retro skateboarding styles ala Vans. If high-top sneakers aren’t your thing, the designer brand also features a low-top silhouette in the same colorway.

The high-tops offered Burrow’s look a casual street-style-inspired feel. Beyond the black and white colorway, the sneaker also comes in a similar light gray and cream hue. DRKSHDW is an offshoot of Rick Owens’ primary label that is intended to be more approachable, affordable and laid-back. Ownes introduced the diffusion line back in 2005, bridging the gap between high-fashion and accessibility.

Casual and cool, the athlete partnered his designer kicks with a sleeveless black knitted top accompanied by tailored trousers featuring ample pockets. Burrow accessorized heavily, sporting black sunglasses, a heavily monogrammed Louis Vuitton brown leather duffle bag and a colorful smiley face chain necklace.

Much like his sneakers, the football star’s look was majority street-style-inspired while pieces like his pants were pulled from dressier places. The accessories helped to liven the all-black look, creating dimension and a sense of playfulness.

For shoes, Burrow often wears tonal and colorful sneakers from Nike, particularly Air Jordan styles — including the latter’s viral collaboration with Dior. On the red carpet, he can be seen in neutral black, brown and gray-hued loafers crafted from leather and suede, as well.
