Jeremy Allen White wins at 2024 Emmys for ‘The Bear,’ continuing his unstoppable awards run
Just as Gold Derby predicted, Jeremy Allen White wins at the 2024 Emmys for “The Bear,” continuing his unstoppable awards run. For those keeping track at home, White has now won two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes, two individual Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Critics Choice Awards and two Gold Derby Awards for his role as head chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on FX’s cooking dramedy.
For this 2024 Emmys contest, his fellow nominees in Best Comedy Actor were Matt Berry (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Larry David (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Steve Martin (“Only Murders in the Building”), Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”) and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (“Reservation Dogs”). White chose to enter “The Bear’s” self-titled Season 2 finale as his 2024 Emmy Award submission. “The Bear” streamed on June 22, 2023 along with the rest of the second season. (Note that Season 3, which streamed in June of 2024, will be eligible at next year’s Emmys.)
In this installment, White’s character gets trapped in the walk-in refrigerator during family and friends night at the restaurant. He experiences an emotional breakdown while in the fridge and rants about his girlfriend, Claire Dunlap (Molly Gordon), who inexplicably overhears him and storms out of the kitchen. Carmy then listens to a voicemail from Claire from earlier that day, where she admits she’s in love with him.
“The Bear” received 23 total Emmy nominations in 2024, more than any other comedy series. Last week at the Creative Arts Emmys, the program cooked up seven wins for guest actor (Jon Bernthal), guest actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), casting, cinematography, picture editing, sound editing and sound mixing.
At last year’s 2023 Emmys, the freshman dramedy claimed 10 Emmy Awards for Season 1: series, actor (White), supporting actress (Ayo Edebiri), supporting actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), writing (Christopher Storer), directing (Storer), casting, picture editing, sound editing and sound mixing.
