LOS ANGELES (PIX11) -- Bronx native Liza Colón-Zayas won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress at Sunday night's Emmy ceremony.

Colón-Zayas is known for her role as line cook Tina Marrero on "The Bear."

“It’s an epic honor that this South Bronx, Nuyorican and that others like me can see this and see that it is possible,” Colón-Zayas said backstage, on becoming the first Latina to win best supporting actress in a comedy, for “The Bear.” “Embrace who you are.”

After her name was called on stage, the actress, who is married to actor David Zayas, stated her husband told her to write a speech.

“How could I have thought it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett,” Colón-Zayas said as she accepted the award on the stage of the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Colón-Zayas sat down with PIX11's own Hazel Sanchez to discuss her Emmy nomination in August.

She is the first Latina to win in the category.
