Chris Fox – owner and founder of Fox Estate Agents – has been a much-valued sponsor of the club for nine years. Here we talk to him about his association with the club and how Dartford’s latest run of cup games have stirred up some very happy memories – and helped make a whole host of new ones.

Chris Fox’s love affair with Dartford Football Club began over half a century ago.

While most 14-year-olds are happy to get to the cinema or park with friends on a weekend, he embarked on an adventure that has lived long in the memory.

Dartford played Morecambe in the 1973/74 FA Trophy final, losing 2-1 – but for Chris and a group of school friends from St Columba’s in Bexleyheath, who made the journey to Wembley alone, it’s a match that forged a long-lasting affinity with the club.

He recalled: “We heard the match was on and a group of us from school all decided to go. It was quite the adventure – I can’t actually remember if we even told our parents!

“I’d been to a Charlton match and to Crystal Palace, but this was something different. We got the train down and I remember it was a pretty big crowd.

“It was a long, exciting day. It was a little bit scary, we were all kids, just 13 or 14. We lost, but it really got me hooked.”

Chris continued attending DFC matches sporadically with his father, so it was a special moment for him to be able to take his grandchildren to the recent FA Cup match that saw Dartford beat Marlow 6-2.

He continued: “I’ve attended matches with my father and daughter, but this was the first time I took all the grandchildren to a match and they loved it. The eldest had been before, but the middle one is just getting into football and they’ve asked when they can go again!

“It was a lovely moment and nice to get future generations as excited about the club as I’ve been.”

Nine years ago, Chris opened his Fox Estates Agents office in Dartford and promptly decided to sponsor the club.

He added: “I like Dartford and I work in the town. And we support other clubs and charities in the town and try to be part of the community.

“It seemed like a natural thing to do, to sponsor the club and I get to as many matches as I can.

“We’ve won four out of the six leagues so far this season which is obviously a good start. We’ve got a whole new team, a whole new squad, so they will take some time settling in, but I think we are going in the right direction.”

Chris will give a discount to Dartford supporters, or make a donation to a charity of their choice, if they mention they are a fan when selling a house through him.
