CSK’s decision on Retaining MS Dhoni if BCCI only allows Two Retentions

0

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still deliberating on their plan for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The teams and franchise owners have given out which players they would like to keep on their teams. Some of the teams are not willing to keep even a single player while others have asked for the figure to be as high as up to 8.

Though the final retention will be 5 or 6, the BCCI is yet to release any formal statement on this subject. Indian board on the other hand is also working quite hard to classify retiring players and labelling them as ‘uncapped’.

According to reports, the Super Kings were the ones who pushed BCCI to reinstate the previous regulations on allowing retired players to be included in the uncapped player group. CSK submitted this proposal hoping to retain MS Dhoni at a lower cost. This subject, however, presents other difficulties.

As per a report, the release of retention guidelines is scheduled by BCCI to be at the end of September, though the previous deadline was August. The board is reportedly giving careful thought on CSK’s proposal because the one-year contract of Dhoni’s extension benefits both the team and the whole of the IPL.

Though the reports also state that even if BCCI permits two retentions per franchise, keeping Dhoni is the number one priority of CSK.
