CNN reports that 'armed individual intended to target Trump' as shots fired at golf course

0

There are conflicting reports over whether a man fired shots at Donald Trump at the former president's golf course on Sunday, but all reports suggest shots were fired in a suspect's direction, and CNN reports that the person did intend to target the GOP nominee.

One man is reportedly in custody after shots were fired. Initial reports suggested that Trump was "never in danger," and the ex-president reportedly told Fox News that he "wanted to finish the hole" after being tackled by Secret Service following the sound of unidentified gunshots.

A police spokesperson, Sheriff William D. Snyder, says that they have the suspect in custody, but that they won’t release the name. The suspect was reportedly "calm."

CBS News also reported that the "man was pointing the rifle at the golf course where the former president was located at the time, and U.S. Secret Service agents engaged the suspect, firing multiple shots." But it is unclear whether the suspect himself fired shots.

With so many open questions, CNN is reporting one answer: the defendant did intend to harm Trump.

"As we await a briefing from officials, here's what CNN knows so far: A person has been detained connected to the incident at Trump International Golf Club, according to a law enforcement source," Kaitlan Collins reported Sunday. "Secret Service fired at the suspect, according to multiple sources, and a long gun has been recovered. Officials believe an armed individual intended to target Trump."

Fox News is now calling the incident an assassination attempt.
