Hibs Women 6 Queens Park 1

0

Hibs Women got back to winning ways with a convincing victory against newly-promoted Queens Park.

In the first ever league meeting between the two sides, Eilidh Adams secured her first hat-trick of the season as Abbie Ferguson, Kathleen McGovern and Poppy Lawson also added to the spoils.

Grant Scott opted to make four changes, with eventual goalscorers Lawson, Ferguson and Adams joining goalkeeper Noa Schumacher in returning to the starting XI.

Hibs started the match in a very proactive fashion and thought they had the lead within 10 minutes after spurning a handful of early chances. McGovern poked the ball past Queen's 'keeper Lauren McGregor but was flagged up for offside by the attentive assistant referee.

Right on cue, the opener did arrive with Adams wetting the fans appetite for goals. The forward beat the offside trap to meet Linzi Taylor's through ball, bore down on goal and coolly slotted into the back of the net.

Ferguson added a second for the Hibees not two minutes later with another fine finish into the bottom corner after a terrific through ball from Ellis Notley played the winger in on goal. The Hibees were red hot with only 15 minutes on the clock.

Determined to put last week’s derby defeat behind them, the team were ruthless. Adams put the result beyond doubt with less than 20 minutes on the clock, bullying the defence to stab the ball low past McGregor.

McGovern kept adding to the fans early delight. Looking to secure her hat-trick, Adams' initial shot - a blazing, low effort that was saved by McGregor - fell to our number 10, who was on hand to secure the rebound by tapping home a concise effort into the empty net.

Starting the second half in much the same way as they ended the first, marauding centre-half Poppy Lawson had the midas touch to score the fifth - caressing the ball low into the corner with controlled shot.

Battling hard all afternoon, Queens Park scored in the 56th minute through Chloe Muir. The attacker lofted the ball high powerfully into the roof of the net past Schumacher.

Lauren Doran-Barr rattled the crossbar with a ferocious strike after a well-played corner routine on the edge of the area. Meanwhile, fellow substitute Mya Christie also had chances to get herself on the scoresheet but the wing-back failed to hit the target after meetinga brilliant low cross from Adams before having another dangerous effort saved.

Waiting patiently since the first-half, Adams secured her hat-trick with less than 10 minutes to play. The Hibees number nine headed home at the near post from an inswinging Ciara Grant corner to secure, beyond doubt, another well-earned three points for Grant Scott's side.
