Lawson: We Go To City With Confidence

Poppy Lawson marked her return to the Hibernian Women starting XI with a well-taken goal versus Queen's Park.

After missing a handful of games recently through injury, Lawson was pleased to continue her recovery by picking up her second start of the season.

The defender had missed four games since Hibs' opening day victory on the road versus Partick Thistle, before returning as a substitute in last week's Edinburgh Derby at Easter Road.

"It was good. It was all about getting minutes into my legs. Last week I got a good 45 minutes into them and it was more this week," Lawson told Hibs TV.

"Three points and up the road. It wasn’t our best performance if we are completely honest with ourselves. But it’s three points and we are happy with that."

The Hibees ran out 6-1 winners at Meadowbank against the newly-promoted Glasgow side, with Lawson's strike coming just four minutes after half-time to help consolidate her team's victory.

The centre-back surged behind the visitors' defence, collected the ball with acres of space and slotted home beyond Lauren McGregor to put the Hibees five goals up on the day.

"As a back three, you naturally seem to find yourself going a little more forward," Lawson explained.

"We are always looking for balance in the team. If Shiv and Ellis are there, it’s my license to go forward. I just found myself in the box and finished it."

Lawson admits a frustration lingers in regards to the overall team performance, but she can not deny that she is glad to pick up three points to send the Hibs faithful home happy.

"Last week hurt, there is no doubt about that. This week was about a reaction. We maybe didn’t get a reaction in the performance but we certainly got one in the result.

"Three points was exactly what we were looking for and we go to City with more confidence."
