How Neeraj Chopra finished in 2nd place in Diamond League 2024 final with a broken hand

New Delhi: India’s star Neeraj Chopra opens up on how he secured second position in the Diamond League 2024 in Brussels, the star athlete was just 0.01m short of the trophy. The Indian who won the Diamond League in 2022 before finishing second last year, once again finished behind winner Anderson Peters with a throw of 87.86m on Saturday.

Neeraj Chopra came up on X (formerly Twitter) with the reason of ending up in second position in the Diamond League 2024.

The Olympic star said, “As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I’ve learned through the year – about improvement, setbacks, mentality and more. On Monday, I injured myself in practice and X-rays showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand. It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels.”

“This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. While I couldn’t meet my own expectations, I feel this was a season in which I learned a lot. I am now determined to return, fully fit and ready to go. I want to thank all of you for your encouragement. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025,” he added.

Chopra, who added a silver to his Olympic medal tally in Paris following a historic gold at the Tokyo Games, thus ended his season on a high. The Indian javelin throw superstar, who has a personal best of 89.94m and season’s best of 89.49m, had a series of 86.82m, 83.49m, 87.86m, 82.04m, 83.30m and 86.46m. The top three led the seven-man field in the same order for the whole competition.

Anderson Peters will collect a Diamond League trophy and USD 30,000 for emerging as the Diamond League champion this season. Chopra will pocket USD 12,000 for his second-place finish in the grand finale which marked the end of the prestigious Diamond League series after 14 legs, as well as the end of the international athletics season.
