Daily Allowance for Women Cricketers Scrapped by PCB in National Training Camps

0

The daily stipend for female players reporting for national camps would no longer be provided, as announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Many people are unhappy and disappointed by the decision to not provide the players with any kind of daily allowance.

“The players are not being given daily allowances because the board is now providing them accommodation and three full meals during the day,” an official from the PCB stated.

However, the players, who are now in Multan for the home series against the South Africa women’s team, believe that the choice was unfair given that they were formed from all regions of the nation.

Expectedly, the South African team’s preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 Cup World Cup in the United Arab Emirates next month will begin with the white-ball series beginning on September 17 and continuing until then.

The intriguing aspect is that the Pakistan men’s team players have the choice of receiving lodging, a daily allowance, and two complete meals each day.

According to a person with knowledge of the developments, the board used to give the female players daily allowances until recently.

The board decided to alter the policy at a time when it was spending millions on other programs, such as paying five mentors of the teams competing in the present Champions Cup in Faisalabad a monthly salary of five million rupees each.

In addition, the board plans to renovate three test sites across the nation for the Champions Trophy early in 2019. This project will cost about 12.8 billion.

“What difference of a few lakh rupees will make to the board is anybody’s guess, but it has potential to create discontent in women’s cricket,” a player who played for Pakistan remarked.

The board member stated that the female players will receive daily allowances once they enter the series.

The announcement of the board’s core contracts for the fiscal year, which has previously been postponed for more than a month, is still awaited by the female athletes.

Nineteen players received central contracts from the board last year.
