Pissouri fire under complete control

The fire in Pissouri which broke out on Friday night burned 3.5 donums of wild shrub and olive trees, the forestry department said on Saturday.

It took around four and a half hours for firefighters to bring the flames under control, while the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The fire broke out at around 8pm at the Skotini area of Pissouri close to rugged terrain and was put under control around 20 minutes after midnight.

A total of 16 staffers from the forestry department fought the fire with four fire engines and an earthmover.

Additionally, the fire service contributed with four people and two fire engines, and the British bases with four people and two fire engines as well as a smaller firefighting vehicle from the Pissouri community.

There were also two firefighting vehicles from voluntary groups.

Forestry department officials are on site to tackle a possible resurgence.
