Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue builds momentum for stray animal care

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The support for Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue in Ville Platte is building. With that momentum, the animal rescue is making strides in building the first of several new buildings for its animals.

Matt Baker and his wife, Bre, founded Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue about two years ago. Ever since then, they have been on a relentless pursuit to make life just a little bit easier for animals in need across the parish.

The pair have cared for more than 60 stray and abandoned dogs as a two-person operation and have been a voice on the issue of over-breeding in Evangeline Parish.

"What I'm seeing is that all of that time that we spent doing those little baby steps is now, it's kind of leapfrogging. We're noticing not only are we getting the facility put together, we're getting the support of the public," Matt said.

A slab at their facility will soon be transformed into the first of three brand-new buildings.

Matt hopes to see that momentum continue to build by hosting an event on Sept. 29, starting at 9 a.m.

The event will be an opportunity for public officials and the community to spend time with the animal rescue and see what it takes to be able to sustain the number of dogs the rescue cares for.

"We're inviting people to come out for a day of service. Any one of us working on our own will not get anything done. But all of us together, to some extent, we'll be able to accomplish a great deal, and that's what we're looking forward to," Matt said.
