Justin Timberlake pleads guilty to DWAI in Long Island case

SAG HARBOR, N.Y. (PIX11) – Singer Justin Timberlake pleaded guilty Friday to DWAI stemming from his arrest in the Hamptons in June.

A Long Island judge sentenced Timberlake to a $500 fine with a $260 surcharge and 25 hours of community service at a nonprofit of his choosing. He is also required to make a public safety announcement.

The singer spoke in court and expressed remorse, saying he was disappointed in himself and understood the impact the case had on the community. He said he has had a lot of time to reflect on his actions.

“I did not live up to the standards that I try to hold for myself," he said.

Timberlake said he was “grateful for the opportunity to move forward” and use his platform to hopefully help others make “better decisions.“

“I should’ve had better judgment,” he said to the judge. “ I understand the seriousness of this.”

Timberlake was pulled over in Sag Harbor just after midnight on June 18 after allegedly not stopping at a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane, according to court documents.

He allegedly told the arresting officer, "I had one martini and I followed my friends home."

Timberlake also allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test three times, had bloodshot eyes, smelled like alcohol, and had trouble speaking, according to court documents.

He initially pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated but agreed to a plea deal on Friday. His driver’s license was suspended during a hearing last month.
