ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Police have arrested an Albany man for a series of robberies and burglary. Gabriel Ballard, 44, faces multiple charges.

Charges

  • First-degree attempted robbery
  • Second-degree robbery
  • Fourth-degree grand larceny
  • Third-degree burglary
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Police say they responded to reports of a burglary at the Mexican Market on Central Avenue on August 17. After an investigation, officers said Ballard allegedly shattered the glass of the front door to enter and stole cash from the register and tip jar before fleeing.

Officers responded to the area of Quail Street and Sherman Street for reports of a robbery on September 4 where the victim told officers that Ballard approached him, punched him in the face, and stole his wallet before fleeing. The victim had injuries on the left side of his face according to police.

On Wednesday, officers say they responded to the area of Third Street and Grant Avenue for reports of a robbery where Ballard allegedly approached the victim, punched him in the face, and lifted his jacket displaying what appeared to be a handgun while demanding personal property. The victim did not comply and Ballard allegedly fled before he could steal anything.

On Thursday, officers say they observed Ballard near Central Avenue and Watervliet Avenue where he was taken into custody. Police say Bllard had a quantity of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest.

Ballard was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to Albany County Jail.
