The Capital Region's oldest unsolved homicide cases

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Capital Region has several open homicide cases with the oldest one dating back to 1959. Authorities are still investigating these cases, but they remain unsolved.

These are the oldest unsolved homicide cases in the Capital Region. Information on these cases came from the New York State Police website, as well as other law enforcement agencies.

Ruth Whitman

December 8, 1959

Ruth Whitman, 18, was found on December 8, 1959 in a water-filled ditch off of Sand Creek Road in Colonie. New York State Police said she was beaten and left in the ditch where she drowned.

Katherine Kolodziej

November 2, 1974

Katherine Kolodziej, 17, was a student at SUNY Cobleskill. On November 2, 1974, she was reported missing from campus. She was last seen leaving the Vault Tavern on Main Street in Cobleskill. New York State Police said her body was found on November 28, 1974.

Robert Gutkaiss

June 30, 1983

Robert Gutkaiss, 15, was last seen on June 30, 1983, leaving the Pease farm and walking north on Route 22 in Stephentown. His remains were found on July 8, 1983, near a logging road off East Road in Stephentown.

Robert Darling Jr.

August 3, 1984

Robert Darling Jr., 21, was reported missing by his father on August 3, 1984. He was last seen in Gloversville. On October 20, 1984, his body was found in Hamilton County. New York State Police said Darling was known to be involved in the drug trade and believe that his death may have been the result of a robbery.

Terry Kay Roark

March 29, 1988

Terry Kay Roark's body was found on March 19, 1988, on the Twin Bridges of the Northway. She was 31 years old. Roark was not identified until July 26, 1988, when a fingerprint match was made. Her parents' lived in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

Pamela Devizzio

July 5, 1988

Pamela Devizzio was reported missing on July 5, 1988 after she didn't show up for work at Mangino’s Restaurant on Saratoga Lake. She was last seen leaving a bar on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs earlier that morning. On July 6, 1988, her body was found on the side of Putnam Road in Northumberland.

Edward "Mitt" Croley

March 24, 1991

Edward "Mitt" Croley, 14, was last seen on March 24, 1991 near Northern Boulevard and Livingston Street in Albany. His remains were found on January 8, 1992 in the woods along Route 144 in Coeymans.

Betty Conley

July 8, 1993

Betty Conley, 37, was found shot to death at the Xtra-Mart convenient store on Route 67 and Peaceable Road in Charlton, Saratoga County. She had been working the midnight shift.

Jennifer Hammond

August 2003

Jennifer Hammond was last seen in late August 2003 soliciting magazines in Creek and Pines Trailer Park in Milton. She did not appear at the designated pick up location with her employer Atlantic Circulation Inc.

Hammond was originally from Colorado and made arrangements for a bus from Albany back to Colorado. The ticket was never picked up and her belongings were abandoned in an Albany hotel.

Brian Galusha

July 25, 2004

On July 25, 2004, Brian Galusha, 30, was found severely injured on North Green Road in Charleston (Fultonville). He later died at Albany Medical Center. Galusha was last seen alive at a house party on South Green Road in Root the previous night. The party was about four miles from where he was found laying in the roadway.

Christina White

June 30, 2005

Christina White, 19, was last seen by family in Ballston Spa on June 30, 2005. Her skeletal remains were found almost a year later on Daketown Road in Greenfield, Saratoga County. She had been stabbed in the stomach. Her phone, wallet and a knife she carried were missing.

The Chen family

October 8, 2014

New York State Police are still investigating the homicides of the Chen family on October 8, 2014, in Guilderland. The bodies of Jin Chen, his wife, Hai Yan Li, and their sons, 10-year-old Anthony, and 7-year-old Eddy, were found inside their Western Avenue home.
