Jay McGarva signs for Queen’s Park

Following a trial period at Queen’s Park, Jay McGarva, has joined the club after eight years at Hibernian FC.

Last Monday the 18-year-old midfielder turned defender scored the equaliser with the last kick of the ball in a 2-2 City of Glasgow Cup tie against Partick Thistle.

Jay explained how he became a Spider by saying: “I had played midfield throughout my time at Hibs until halfway through last season when I moved to centre back. I thought I did well however Hibs decided to go without a B Team, and I was amongst eight boys that were released.

“Queen’s Park brought me in on trial and I have really enjoyed it. The training is good, the staff are excellent, and the boys have all been good with me. Getting a goal last Monday was great.

“I am looking forward to building my career at Queen’s Park by working hard every day and doing well in the ‘B’ Team and pushing for a First Team place.”

Academy Director, Tommy McIntyre added: “Jay comes from good stock having previously spent a period with Hibs in their Academy. He is a left-sided defender, who can adapt to playing in a multitude of positions which can be extremely beneficial within our Game Model and Principles of Play Strategy.”

Tommy added: “Jay has excelled within a challenging environment. He is in the right place to develop and hopefully realise his potential and be the player we think he can be. His profile offers a lot of key performance indicators in what we are looking for in a young talented player.

“He shows good characteristics and personality, has a great attitude and commitment, as well as a hunger and desire to do well. There is added self-responsibility for Jay but if you have these ingredients and show that you are good enough then you have a chance, and we will give Jay the platform to hopefully build a career in football at Queen’s Park.”
