Raising awareness for sickle cell disease

NEW YORK (PIX11) – September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

The average life expectancy of a person with sickle cell is 54 years old. It affects more than 100,000 people in the U.S.

Teresa Ginger Davis, an advocate for sickle cell patients, and 9-year-old Amina, who is living with the disease, talk about it on PIX11 Morning News.

The Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network is holding a walk in Central Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
