Music nights coming up in Nicosia
A party with DJs in the square, live music concerts and more are coming to the capital to entertain culture lovers and event seekers. Coming up first is the DJ Party Vol.2 at Eleftheria Square organised by the Municipality of Nicosia this Friday.
An evening event will transform the square into a party scene welcoming several DJs on the decks. From 6pm to midnight, a line-up of local artists will take over the DJ booth to play funky music. Every hour a new DJ will perform. Participating are the DJs Savvas, Chi, DJ Zeus, DJ Michael K, DJ Mike, DJ Louis CY and DJ Jimbo JW.
The event is another action by the municipality that falls within the European programme Cities After Dark, funded by the URBACT programme and focuses on strengthening the night-time economy and urban development of the city. This particular event aims to give various DJs the opportunity to showcase their talent to the public. A free party in the square will signal the start of the weekend.
Next week, Stavroula Constanti, Elena Xyda and Italian oud player Peppe Frana will host two concerts in Nicosia titled The Joy that Wounds. The three musicians will meet after a long time to present modal music performances. Taking Classical Ottoman music as their starting point, they will play compositions by contemporary composers as well as Sephardic songs and traditional melodies from Greece. The two performances, first at Prozak on September 19 and then at Archontiko Ierodiakonou in Agioi Omologites on September 21, are dedicated to the memory of their teacher, Omer Erdogdular, who introduced them to the world of his music.
