TV shows we love: Dead Boy Detectives
I was engrossed in this story of two ghosts working to solve a series of mysteries. The boys of Dead Boy Detectives are helped by a psychic medium, who can read people and clues but has lost her memory, possessed as she is by a demon.
When another girl possessed by sprites is added to the team the story becomes interesting, as they not only solve the mysterious deaths but try to deal with their own pasts.
The boys were both bullied at British boarding school and lost their lives when tragic things happened to them, one sucked to hell in a sacrifice and the other dying from hypothermia after being thrown into a lake.
As the medium goes hunting for her memories and discovers new powers in addition to who she really is, the story explores human relationships.
She spent time as a rich spoiled socialite who used her powers for her own gain. This results in her doing a 180 after meeting the boys, learning to treat people better and share her gift for good.
I was taken in by the special effects, details and the crimes. Fantasy also helps to keep viewers intrigued with the boys trying to avoid death, which comes to collect the ghosts they help and release them.
The boys work in the belief that they are destined to help others move on and develop their own strong friendship. They also avoid death because they feel they will be pulled apart, as one ended up in hell due to the sacrifice, and the other is still uncertain of where he will end up.
The show will keep viewers guessing and gripped by the multiple storylines that bleed together.
There is something for everyone in the show, and the overall theme still comes through to make it cohesive, entertaining, and also interesting.
Although I had hoped season 2 would tie up the loose ends of some of the cliffhangers and broaden the story for the characters, Netflix has this week cancelled the show so we will never know what happened.
