Patrick Mahomes Says He Doesn’t Want to Get Political

Despite the Mahomes household’s best attempts, there’s no escaping politics during this year’s election cycle. After Brittany Mahomes (accidentally?) outed herself as a Trump supporter, Trump hasn’t stopped talking about her. Asked about Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris following the debate, Trump told Fox & Friends, “Well, actually I like Mrs. Mahomes much better … she’s a big Trump fan.” He then nodded to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes as “a great quarterback.”

Naturally, when a reporter asked Patrick how he felt about this, he dodged the question with some impressively vague talking points.

“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” Mahomes said, when asked who he’d be voting for this November. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It is to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family.”

“Every time I’m on this stage and I get asked these questions, I’m going to refer back to that because I think that’s what makes America so great,” Mahomes continued. “Whenever I’m hanging out with whoever, I’m not thinking about their political views or anything like that. I’m thinking about the people and how they treat other people, and I was with a lot of great people this weekend.” Notably, the couple was papped hanging out with Swift and fellow Chiefs player Travis Kelce in a suite at the U.S. Open.

Hmmm, where have I seen the trio of words “make,” “America,” and “great” before? Maybe on that Instagram post Brittany liked and unliked?
