WATCH: Virat Kohli returns to India from London and lands in Chennai ahead of India vs Bangladesh 2024 1st Test, swamped by fans at 4am

Former India captain Virat Kohli is finally back in India, a little less than before the first Test in the India vs Bangladesh 2024 series gets underway at the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter had left for London straight after returning from Sri Lanka where India lost the three-match ODI series 3-0 last month.

Kohli has been spending time in London with his wife Anushka Sharma, daughter Vamika and son Akaay. The 35-year-old landed straight in Chennai from London at 4am in the morning and was immediately swamped by fans seeking selfies with the Indian batter. The video of Virat Kohli’s arrival soon went viral on social media.

Kohli needs just 152 runs in the two-Test series against Bangladesh to notch up 9,000 runs in Test cricket. He also needs just 58 runs to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket in less than 600 innings – first man in 147 years to achieve this feat.

Against Bangladesh, Kohli has scored 437 runs in 6 Tests at an average of 54.62. He has a best of 204 off 246 balls against Bangladesh in a Test match in Hyderabad in 2017.

The remaining members of the Indian cricket team arrived at the Chennai airport on Thursday night, ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh. Star players Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul were spotted boarding the team bus at the airport on their arrival from Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The two-match series between India and Bangladesh will kick off on September 19 in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, the second long-format game will begin on September 27 in Kanpur. In his first Test assignment, head coach Gautam Gambhir will be keen on securing a series win.

Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Test side. Pacers Akash Deep and Yash Dayal received maiden call-ups, while dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has returned to Test cricket for the first time since his life-threatening accident in December 2022.
