Police catch driver with 23 kilos of cannabis

A cannabis haul of almost 23kg was seized in a Nicosia drug bust operation with a 29-year-old set to be brought before Nicosia District Court for the offence on Friday.

According to the police, the drugs were traced and confiscated on Thursday afternoon when officers intercepted the 29-year-old while driving. During the operation the suspect’s vehicle collided with a police car damaging both.

In the subsequent vehicle search, police found 20 vacuum packs containing cannabis weighing 22.8kg, as a result of which the 29-year-old was arrested.

The man was later taken as a precaution to the Nicosia general hospital where he underwent medical examination and was discharged.

The Nicosia drug unit is furthering the investigation.
