Nicosia is United by Pride

0

This Saturday, the United by Pride event will bring together the communities of the island with two parallel marches in Nicosia. The marches will begin at 6pm from Eleftheria Square in the south and from Kuğulu Park in the north, meeting at the Ledra Palace buffer zone an hour later to symbolise unity in diversity. The night will then continue with music and party vibes as DJ sets and live performances by local artists entertain the crowds.

“This year’s United by Pride is more than just a celebration of diversity,” say organisers ACCEPT LGBTI Cyprus, African LGBTIQ+ Community Cyprus, LGBT Filipinas, Queer Collective Cy and Queer Cyprus, “it’s a significant act of unity and resistance against increasing challenges both locally and in the wider region. The event highlights the urgent need for cooperation, solidarity and action, especially in Cyprus’ current political landscape, where ongoing division continues to obstruct progress toward a peaceful and inclusive society.”

Initiated by Queer Collective CY, United by Pride is in its third edition bringing together people and organisations with a common commitment to make this year’s event a powerful call for peace, reunification, and the protection of LGBTQIA+ rights.

“United by Pride,” conclude organisers, “is more than just a local celebration – it is a statement against discrimination and segregation, emphasising that peace, reunification and LGBTQIA+ rights are non-negotiable values.”
