Trailing 6-3, the Clippers roared back on Wednesday with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie it, and then Johnathan Rodriguez played hero by blasting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Rodriguez finished the night 3-for-5 with a home run and a double.

Estevan Florial and Micah Pries also homered. Florial’s was a two-run bomb in the fifth inning and Pries accounted for all three runs in the eighth inning with a three-run blast.

Myles Straw singled, walked and stole a base as well, while Raynel Delgado doubled and walked.

Starting pitcher Ryan Webb struggled, allowing five runs on seven hits in 4 13 innings. He walked three and struck out four.

A rehabbing James Karinchak allowed the other run while walking three in 23 of an inning. Tanner Burns earned the win with 2 13 scoreless innings of long relief.

Akron got a monster pitching performance from Austin Peterson on Tuesday. Peterson was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings of three-hit ball. He didn’t walk a batter while striking out six. He also outdueled Chase Dollander, one of the top pitching prospects from the 2023 MLB Draft.

Reliever Davis Sharpe almost crashed the party, allowing four runs on five hits in 23 of an inning, but Jack Leftwich and Zane Morehouse slammed the door with 2 13 scoreless innings of relief to earn a hold and a save, respectively.

Offensively, Cooper Ingle led the way, going 2-for-3 with a walk Milan Tolentino went 2-for-3 with a walk and Tyresse Turner went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.

C.J. Kayfus doubled and Guy Lipscomb doubled and walked for Akron.
