'These people don't play around': Stephensville residents clean up after Hurricane Francine

STEPHENSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Aside from power outages and some flooded roads, St. Martin Parish officials say the lower portion of the parish is pretty blessed when it comes to what it experienced from Hurricane Francine.

Maj. Terry Guidry, of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, said the sheriff's office is handing out supplies, like water and tarps.

"We're limited and still doing our assessments on how much more we can provide. We're moving in the right direction. Again, we were blessed. We didn't get the damage we thought we were going to get," he said.

St. Martin Parish Schools said all of their schools will be open Friday, except Stephensville Elementary.

Stephensville resident Ace Arceneaux said people who live in the area have been on top of their game since the storm passed by clearing debris from roadways and ensuring their yards are presentable.

"It's just taking pride in what you have and cleaning it back up and getting ready for the next event. These people don't play around. They get back here, and they do what they got to do to get their yards back in place," Arceneaux said.
