Troy teen charged with having illegal firearm
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 17-year-old is facing multiple weapon charges following an operation in Troy on Wednesday, according to police. The minor's name was not released due to their age.
On September 11, officers were conducting surveillance in North Central Troy in connection to a recent shooting in the area. During the operation, police reportedly noticed someone with a firearm in their waistband amid a crowd of people.
As police approached the suspect, the person ran off before being detained after a short chase. Upon interviewing the 17-year-old suspect, officers allegedly found that the teen was in possession of a loaded illegal handgun with 25 rounds of ammunition. The youth was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a weapon - extended magazine
According to police, this is the second time the teen has been arrested by Troy officers for weapon possession. The 17-year-old was arraigned in the Troy youth justice system and was remanded to a juvenile detention facility.
