‘Not heard anything’ – David Pleat reveals Spurs snubbed him after decades of service
David Pleat reveals that Tottenham did not allow his memoir to be sold in the club’s shop and even refused to give him a free ticket despite his many years of service to the club.
David Pleat has been around Spurs for decades
Pleat had multiple spells as Tottenham manager, taking charge of the club for the 1986-87 season and the 2003-04 campaign. In addition, he also had a couple of spells as caretaker manager at White Hart Lane in 1998 and 2001.
Pleat then joined Tottenham as a scout in 2010, a position which he held until earlier this summer, helping the club keep an eye on the best-emerging talent in the EFL.
However, despite his many decades of service to Spurs, the 79-year-old has now revealed that the Lilywhites denied him the chance to sell his memoir in the club shop and did not even allow him to make a presentation at the venue.
Support David Pleat and his memoir
Pleat’s wife Maureen passed away from a degenerative form of motor neurone disease in 2020 and part of the profits from his memoir, which is titled ‘Just One More Goal’, will be donated to charities seeking a cure for the disease.
He told The Telegraph: “I’m not expecting it to be a fortune. But every little helps to fight that horrible disease.”
When asked about whether fans can get it from the official club shop, he responded: “They’re not selling it there, something to do with it not being through the club’s official publisher.
“I asked Daniel if I could have a room there to launch it and do a presentation. He said he’d get back to me. I’ve not heard anything.
“It’s funny. Arsenal gave Bob Wilson a seat for life. They’re a classy club, Arsenal. Me, I was told I can get a ticket at Spurs subject to availability. Subject to availability. Ha! Mind you, Bob did much more for Arsenal than I ever did for Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Whatever one feels about Pleat’s time as Tottenham boss and about whether he was valuable as a scout to the club, this is no way to treat a person who has given such a long service to Spurs.
Many fans will understandably feel disappointed by the way Spurs treat many of their legends.
