Danny Rose reveals Tim Sherwood’s message that changed his Spurs career
Danny Rose reveals it was Tim Sherwood’s stern message that triggered a change in his mentality and allowed him to become the player he did.
Danny Rose spent 14 years at Tottenham
Rose arrived at Spurs from Leeds as a teenager in 2007 but it took him until 2014 to establish himself as a regular in the side, with the Englishman eventually displacing Beniot Assou-Ekotto in the team.
It was under Mauricio Pochettino that the left-back had a massive transformation, becoming an England regular and evolving into one of the best in his position across the Premier League.
His downfall also followed Pochettino’s exit from Spurs in 2019, which would have led many to think that the Argentine was the most valuable coach in Rose’s career.
Tim Sherwood helped Danny Rose rise at Spurs
However, the former Tottenham man actually picked his predecessor, Sherwood, who was in charge for six months as caretaker boss after Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking in December 2013, as the man who helped turn his career around.
When asked why it took him so long to break into the Tottenham team, the 34-year-old told the GamblingZone YouTube channel: “Harry [Redknapp] and Tim [Sherwood] told me that my attitude wasn’t correct, and it needed to improve.
“After that, there was a change in how I trained, how I approached training, just a huge shift in my mentality, Tim will tell you that. Ever since then.
“Tim has been my biggest, not fan, but mentor. He pushed and pushed for me to get in that team. Without Tim, I’m not sure I would’ve got the opportunities that I did at Spurs.”

I have never been a fan of Sherwood’s personality as he comes across as quite obnoxious and someone who always plays fast and loose with the facts.
However, the 55-year-old has evidently played a key role in the development of several top players at Spurs, being the first to hand regular opportunities to the likes of Rose and Harry Kane.
