IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Will BCCI decide to move out of Kanpur Due To Protests?

New Delhi: In the upcoming Test series between India and Bangladesh is set to take place at Chennai from 19th September 2024. The second Test between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held at the Green Park in Kanpur is expected to proceed as per plan despite early calls of protests during the match. A senior official from the Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the second Test match between India and Bangladesh will not be shifted despite threats of protests, according to the reports.

There were some concerns after a threat issued by Hindu Mahasabha regarding protests against the Bangladesh cricket team in response to alleged violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. However, a source close to BCCI has said that they are not looking at alternate venues for the encounter and the match will take place as planned.

“Yes, we are monitoring and with the concerned authorities as far as those threats are concerned but we have done everything to hold that match and the stadium is ready to welcome our visitors said it’s not going anywhere it will be in Kanpur but will keep monitoring the situation not only in Kanpur but also at the other venues,” the source told India Today.

Bangladesh cricket team have face issue on and off the field following the political unrest in their country. There have been a host of changes to the cricket board in terms of personnel, while the players had to leave early for their tour of Pakistan, with assistance from the PCB.

The last match played in Kanpur was a Test match in 2021, during New Zealand’s tour of India. The stadium witnessed the series opener between the two sides, a contest which famously ended in a thrilling draw.

Bad light became the focal point during the contest as the Blackcaps scraped through with a sole wicket remaining. The spin bowling pair of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel played out 8.4 overs towards the end of the contest, as the play was called up before 12 minutes of the stipulated game. The clash also marked Shreyas Iyer’s Test debut in which he smashed a hundred.

India vs Bangladesh second Test will begin from Friday, September 27 onwards.
