Ishan Kishan sends loud message to Ajit Agarkar with Duleep Trophy ton

After making a surprise return to the Duleep Trophy despite no update from the BCCI regarding his injury status, Ishan Kishan put on an incredible show while playing for India C. He scored a fantastic hundred against India B in Anantapur to get his team into a strong position on the first day.

Although Ishan was initially named for the Duleep Trophy tournament, he was ruled out on the eve of the opener last week after picking up a groin injury during the pre-season Buchi Babu tournament last month, with Sanju Samson replacing him in the lineup. 

However, on Thursday, Ishan’s name was spotted in the playing XI for India C, and the wicketkeeper-batter later stepped out to bat at number 4. Kishan, who also scored a century while playing for his state team, Jharkhand in Buchi Babu tournament, continued his superb form and smashed his seventh first-class century.

He reached triple-figures after facing 121 deliveries, scoring 14 boundaries and 2 sixes. He was eventually dismissed on 111 by pacer Muskesh Kumar. 

Due to not being given a central contract, Kishan was absent from the Indian side for quite some months. He last played for India back in November 2023 against Australia in a T20I. His absence led BCCI to unearth another young talent in Dhruv Jurel, who made a stunning debut against England in February earlier this year.

Both Jurel and Rishabh Pant were named in the Indian squad for the first Test against Bangladesh which is set to commence from September 19. However, Kishan’s century in the Duleep Trophy could lead to a change in the squad for the second Bangladesh Test that will commence from September 27. It will be interesting to see as to what decision the Ajit Agarled-led selection committee makes.

An array of fine knocks could also see Kishan challenge the 2 wicketkeeper-batters for a place in the India squad for the New Zealand Test series in October. This knock will definitely put pressure on both Pant and Jurel to perform in the upcoming Bangladesh Test.
