Watervliet man pleads guilty to stealing from gyms

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, a Watervliet man pleaded guilty to stealing from local gyms. Matthew Seeloff, 36, is scheduled to be sentenced on November 7 at 3 p.m.

Charges

• Two counts of third-degree grand larceny
• Third-degree burglary

As a part of the plea, Seeloff admitted to stealing a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee near Planet Fitness in Latham Farms, stealing the keys to a 2009 Subaru Outback at the Best Fitness in Albany, and stealing a 2018 Ford Focus at the Vent Fitness in Latham in February of 2023. Seeloff was also accused of taking money or cards from the cars to make purchases with the stolen items.

The defendant pleaded guilty after his trial started this week, but before any proof or opening arguments were made, according to the DA's Office. Seeloff faces a term of four to eight years in state prison.
