Man fatally shot in West Garfield Park

A 36-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in West Garfield Park on the West Side.

Around 10:40 p.m., officers responding to calls of a person shot in the 4000 block of West Carroll Avenue and found Edward Hemphil shot on the ground, Chicago police.

Hemphil was shot twice in the back and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

An autopsy was planned for Thursday for Hemphil, who lived in the same neighborhood.

No one was in custody.
