I haven’t washed my hair in 4 months… people tell me ‘it looks so dirty’ but I let the rain give it a rinse
A BEAUTY lover has taken the internet by storm after admitting she hasn’t used shampoo in 16 weeks, with people commenting on how ”dirty” it looks.
As a general rule, most experts in the industry recommend washing your tresses every two to three days – although this will, of course, vary depending on your hair type and how active you are.
Lis claimed to have not used regular shampoo for a staggering 16 weeks[/caption] The woman also encouraged others to give the ‘no poo’ method a go[/caption]But one stay-at-home mum, Lis Daily, has decided to ditch the regular shampooing routine, recently revealing she hasn’t used the haircare product in a whopping four months.
Proudly showing off her curly blonde tresses on Instagram, Lis – who calls herself ”trophy wife” – left viewers gobsmacked after explaining her alternative to showering.
Instead of sticking to regular shampoos, the stunner swears by rinsing her locks… in rain.
”Did you know that standing outside in the rain and letting it wash your hair is what our ancestors did?” she said in a video.
Lis, who regularly shares parenting and lifestyle content on her page, has embraced the so-called ”no poo” method – a shampoo-adverse way of cleaning your hair utilising just water.
The theory behind ”no poo” – which also sees people using apple cider vinegar or baking soda – is that regular shampoos ”contain synthetic materials that strip away too much of the natural sebum produced by your scalp”.
According to the experts at Beardbrand Shampoo, ”with regular usage, these harsh shampoos create a vicious cycle of rinsing, repeating, and ultimately damaging your hair”.
But whilst advocates of the no-poo method believe that shampoo is bad for your hair, there isn’t any scientific proof to back up this claim, professionals have stated.
Dr. Nicole Rogers – Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Tulane University – said: “For the average person with healthy, untreated hair, there is no evidence that the simple act of shampooing, so long as it is with the appropriate ingredients for your hair, will cause damage.”
She added that sebum production is actually “affected by various things including hormones, diet, and genetics” and that “the simple act of not washing your hair less is not going to slow it down”.
Lis, one of the many who’s ditched regular shampoo, hasn’t touched the shower essential in several months, advising others to follow suit.
”Ditch the ‘poo for good!”
But whilst she may swear by the ”no poo” method, people on social media weren’t so sure, with the now-viral video racking up more than a staggering 2.4million views.
One horrified Instagram user said: ”it looks so dirty i thought it was wet.”
Another agreed, writing the hair ”definitely looks unwashed”.
Someone else chimed in, explaining why they thought following everything the previous generations did was not necessarily the best of ideas.
The 4 stages of the hair growth cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growtn cycle are: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen Phase: Also known as the ‘Growth Phase’ or ‘Active Phase’, is when the cells in the root of your hair are most rapidly dividing so more new hair is formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows around half an inch a month [about six inches a year], and faster in the summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen Phase: Following the Anagen Phase, your hair cycle enters a short transitional phase known as the Catagen Phase, which signals the end of active hair growth and cuts individual hairs off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair.
Approximately three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any time and it lasts for around 10 days.
Telogen Phase: The third stage of your natural hair growth cycle is the Telogen Phase, a resting period when strands remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
An estimate of 10-15 percent of your hairs are in the Telogen Phase at any given moment.
The Telogen Phase lasts around three months or 100 days.
Exogen Phase: The final stage of the Hair Growth Cycle, when individual hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process begins again.
”Just an fyi, those ancestors you are mentioning, had a very short life span, they were not known for their health.
”This is not a judgment on your hair, I’m just sick of this “it’s like our ancestors used to do” stuff.
”Might want to check out the smell, and hygiene of those ancestors.
A person who claimed to work in the industry warned Lis of the potential consequences of ditching shampoos.
”Not washing your hair causes a ton of scalp issues. I’m a hairdresser of 40 years and not washing is the nastiest trend. Have fun with your dermatitis.”
