It’s one of pop culture’s biggest nights: the MTV Video Music Awards, or should we say “Voluptuous Megan Awards,” the name Megan Thee Stallion gave the show in honor of her first time hosting it. The red carpet was full of looks, and there were glam moments, too. From Doechii wearing face tape for the ultimate red-carpet face-lift to Chappell Roan’s excessively long chrome nails, here were some of the best beauty moments:

Best Bob: Megan Thee Stallion

Red carpets are always the best time to completely change your look up, and that’s exactly what Megan did. She’s usually in big, curly hair or long hair, but tonight, she’s wearing an asymmetrical bob with thick bangs. A bossy bob fit for a first-time host.

Best Wet-Hair Look: Katy Perry

Wearing a wet-hair look on the red carpet can either look stringy and like a simple fail or like this: effortlessly tousled with a glossy shine finished with Goldwell StyleSign Extra Strong Hairspray to hold the hair in place. The style also sublimely complemented her Who Decides War dress, a barely-there distressed top that added to the cool edginess of the hairstyle.

Best Red Lip: Halle Bailey

Bailey looks like a classic beauty wearing deep-red lipstick, one that’s flawlessly fitting to her complexion and to her red sequin dress.

Best Emulation: GloRilla

This hair inspiration can only come from one person: the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes from TLC, known for her out-of-the-box hairstyles. GloRilla’s braided ponytails with circular shapes is a reference to Left Eye’s braided style at the 2000 Soul Train Awards. Tonight isn’t the first time GloRilla attended a red carpet paying homage to Left Eye, and she always does it well.

Best Overall Glam: Sabrina Carpenter

Carpenter’s signature bangs got a Hollywood glam makeover. From the dramatic volume in her curls to her glossy red lip, flushed cheeks, and “pin-up lash,” according to her makeup artist, Carolina Gonzalez, she achieved a dreamy ’60s-like glam, the best on the carpet.

Best Nails: Chappell Roan

Roan brought a literal sword onto the carpet with her, but her extra-long chrome nails wrapped around the sword were a moment. Her manicurist, Juan Alvear, used Gel-X extra-extra-long tips and embedded pearl accents, the perfect accessory to Roan’s sheer dress.

Most Lifted … Literally: Doechii

Doechii’s aesthetic often includes a drastically lifted face because she wears face tape unapologetically. She’s worn it in shoots and photos, but never on a red carpet. There’s a first time for everything, right?

Best Fall-Hair Inspo: Flo Milli

Flo Milli is no stranger to playing with colorful hair. She’s done it all, from purple to vibrant red to blonde, but this shade of deep auburn hair feels like a perfect introduction into the fall season.

Best Slicked-Back Style: Coco Jones

Slicked-back hair brings a different glow to the face. Jones looked angelic wearing a shiny, short cut. Her hairstylist, Davontae Washington, described it as “sleek, bold, and confident.” The glossy finish comes courtesy of Eco Style’s lightweight sheen.
