India vs Bangladesh 2024: Virat Kohli set to become 1st player in 147 years to achieve THIS feat

0

Former India captain Virat Kohli will be returning to Test cricket arena when Rohit Sharma’s side take on Bangladesh in the first Test beginning at the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19. Kohli will look to continue his quest to score 9,000 runs in Test cricket and keep up with the ‘Fab Four’ which includes Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson apart from the Indian batter.

However, there is a bigger achievement which awaits Kohli in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Kohli can become the 1st cricketer in 147 years to achieve this rare feat which even the great Sachin Tendulkar failed to accomplish.

The former India captain needs only 58 runs to complete 27,000 runs in international – in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Tendulkar is the fastest to reach this landmark in 623 innings – 226 Test innings, 396 ODI innings and 1 T20I innings. But Kohli has only played 591 innings till date and he can become the only batter in the last 147 years to score 27,000 runs in less than 600 innings.

Kohli has turned out in 591 innings across formats to accumulate 26,942 runs. The Indian batter has eight innings in which he can score 58 runs. Apart from Tendulkar, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara also have scored 27,000 runs in international cricket.

Kohli also needs 152 runs to score 9,000 runs in Test cricket. If Kohli reaches this mark in the 4 innings vs Bangladesh, he will also surpass former England opener Graham Gooch’s total of 8,900 Test runs.

Apart from this, Kohli will also look to go past Sir Donald Bradman on the most Test centuries chart. Both Kohli and Bradman have 29 Test centuries currently. With his 30th Test ton, the Indian batter will equal the record of former Australia opener Matthew Hayden and former West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
