Tyreek Hill Makes Demand After Police Detainment

0

Tyreek Hill has called for the arrest of one of the officers involved in his recent detainment.

The Dolphins star was briefly handcuffed and detained following a traffic stop just outside Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, just moments before Hill was due to play in the season opener. Widely circulated police bodycam footage showed the chaotic incident in full. One of the officers involved—Danny Torres—has been placed on administrative duties pending an investigation.

On Tuesday, Hill’s attorney, Julius Collins, issued a statement calling for Torres’ termination from the Miami-Dade Police Department. "We are of the opinion that the officer's use of force was excessive, escalating, and reckless. We are demanding that the officer be terminated effective immediately,” the statement read.

"The events that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, are just a reminder of the realities of the many injustices that people of black and minority communities face at the hands of law enforcement,” it continued. “While we are in no way accusing the officer of being racist, we are accusing the customs and practices of law enforcement from a historical standpoint of being discriminatory and oppressive to black and minority communities."

Hill was issued two citations at the scene, one for not wearing a seatbelt and another for careless driving at a "high rate of speed—visual estimation 60 mph," according to the department’s report. He was detained but summarily released, going on to score an 80-yard touchdown amidst the Dolphins’ 20–17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During an interview on Monday night, Hill told NBC News that the traffic stop “just went from 0 to 60, man. From the moment that those guys pulled up behind me, knocked on my window, it went from 0 to 60 immediately."
