COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man accused of beating another to death with a skateboard was in court Wednesday.

According to court records, Adrian Ashley, 46, was in Franklin County Municipal Court on murder charges after Timothy Davis was pronounced dead from serious head injuries suffered Friday during a fight near a Kroger on North High Street in the University District.

Police said officers were called on a report of a fight between Ashley and Davis, who was found unconscious and nonresponsive. Witnesses said Ashley knocked Davis out, then retrieved a skateboard and struck him in the head several times.

Ashley allegedly then kicked Davis in the head before walking away. Davis was not expected to survive his injuries and was pronounced dead two days later after he was removed from life support.

Initially, Ashley was charged with felonious assault, but that charge was amended to murder.

A Franklin County Municipal Court judge issued Ashley a $4 million bond and ordered him to next appear in court on Sept. 16 for a preliminary hearing.

Ashley’s criminal history dates as far back as 1996 and includes prison sentences for theft and aggravated robbery and multiple sentences for assault and drug possession.
